CQL Quality and HR Department jointly hosted the 1st Supplier Welding Trainer Training at Caterpillar Training Center on June 9, 2014. The training aims to convey CQL’s quality criteria and requirements of fabrication to suppliers’ welding trainers. The trainers’ instruction and demonstration role will lead to the continuous improvement of suppliers’ welding quality and eventually achieve the mutual development between CQL and the suppliers. 

CQL Quality Manager Nevin Qian expressed his warm welcome to the trainers from four suppliers and presented product quality status and customers’ feedback as well as the opportunities and challenges. Nevin also shared the improvement opportunities during process and quality management when he visited the fabrication suppliers, demonstrated Caterpillar’s principle of win with the suppliers. The welding trainers were advised to apply what they have learnt to the practical work and help other welders to enhance skills for quality improvement.

Totally 7 trainers participated in the 5-day-length welding quality training, which consisted of welding theory training, welding simulation, welding operation and welding line evaluation. Welding theory and welding process control are the two aspects covered in the training to deepen their understanding of welding quality control. After the strict evaluation, all of the 7 trainers have got the Supplier Welding Trainer Certification issued by Caterpillar Training Center, among which 4 have got excellent results.    

There still exist a lot of improvement spaces for product quality, the training just take the first step. Suppliers’ quality performance improvement is a systematic project, which needs an overall planning of staffing, management systems and process. Quality PCE team will make deep investigation in the suppliers to help them establish their own process control system and improve product quality at root, and finally win the customers’ confidence through product quality.
