Maintenance: Crane Inspection and Storage in Special Working Environment
September 28, 2014
1. Work in the mud, rain or snow
Before work: Check to see if any plug, shaft or pin becomes loose.
After work: Wash the vehicle. Check to see if any bolt or nut becomes loose or already has fallen off. Add oil and grease wherever necessary.
2. Work close to the sea beach
Before work: Check to see if any plug, shaft or pin becomes loose. Apply grease to the corroded components, especially the connecting rods, levers, which need to be fully and carefully covered.
After work: Thoroughly clean the salt off from the machine. Apply grease to the rusted components. Keep all electrical components free from corrosion.
3. Dusty environment
Air filter: Clean the filter cartridge and dust collector in advance.
Radiator: Clean the central part of the radiator regularly and prevent it from obstruction.
Fuel device: Clean the parts of the filter in advance.
Electrical components: Carefully clean the starter and the contact surface of the sensor.
4. Rocky Environment
The tension of the track shall be lower than that for the general environment. Watch carefully to see if the travel device is damaged, cracked or worn out. Check to see if any bolt or nut becomes loose or has already fallen apart.
5. Places where stones are falling.
Add the protection net or roof over the cab.
6. Cold Areas
Use the lubricant with better and less viscosity. The batteries should be fully charged in advance.
7. Other working environments
The worn-off situation is different for pulley blocks depending on if it belongs to the main luffing masts, or to the rear platform, or to the other devices. A daily inspection should be conducted to see if any of them needs to be replaced due to the wear-out.
Whenever a supporting wheel is to be re-assembled after it is serviced, remember to have it reversely reinstalled so as to extend the life of the guide rail surface.
8. Storage of the crane
Before moving the machine into storage, be sure you have done the following jobs so as to ensure that it can work again after the storage period without the required performance downgraded:
● 1. To be stored less than one month
Clean the vehicle thoroughly. Keep it dry and fully lubricated.
Cover it so as to be free from dust.
● 2. To be stored more than one month but less than one year.
1. Clean the vehicle thoroughly and check to see if any abnormality exists in the travel device.
2. Keep the vehicle dry.
3. Coat the components, which are easily corroded, with a thin film of lubricant.
4. Carefully lubricate the slewing ring.
5. Replace the gear oil and the hydraulic oil.
6. Replace the cartridge of all filters.
7. Remove the batteries from the vehicle, fully charge them and put them in storage. The ground wire of the batteries shall be removed. The warehouse shall be dry, dark and well-ventilated and under normal atmospheric temperature.
8. Drain off the coolant and put up the "No Coolant" sign on the machine. Move the machine into a warehouse. Cover the engine to keep it free from moisture and dust.
9. Clean and check the tools and keep them in a proper place.
10. Let the machine run at the idle status once a month to prevent it from excessive wear in the next actual operation due to film damage or rust. In such maintenance running, pay special attention to the temperature change on the cylinder head.
