The whole line of sichuan-tibet railway is 1,742.39 km, with a design speed of 200km/h and a speed limit of 160km/h for some sections. The total investment is about 270 billion yuan. Once completed, the train ride from chengdu to Lhasa will be reduced from 48 hours to about 13 hours.

The sichuan-tibet railway runs from chengdu to Lhasa via ya 'an, kangding, qamdo, nyingchi and shannan. The total length of the tunnel is 200km. It is still under study whether the erlangshan tunnel will be a double tunnel or a double tunnel.
